PETRONAS Youngstars Day Interview Experience 2019

Hey there! Here's my experience with the Petronas Interview ✨

Just like in previous years, applying to Petronas was straightforward via their website, no complicated forms or essays required. The interview schedule followed the usual format: an assessment in the morning, and for those who passed, the interview in the afternoon.

After a few weeks of applying, Alhamdulillah! 💛 I was shortlisted for the next stage. For Petronas, it's crucial to prepare early with the required documents, which are a bit different from other companies, so read the instructions carefully! Don't forget to print the Cambridge Assessment Guideline; it was really helpful for me.

---Petronas Youngstars Day was on April 22, 2019.

Petronas sessions started early, so we headed to KDU Glenmarie, Shah Alam right after Subuh prayer. First, we checked our documents, then proceeded to Level 3A (if I'm not mistaken), salamming our parents for their du'a along the way 👌

In a huge hall, approximately 400 candidates gathered. We handed in our documents in original and CTC envelopes. They provided breakfast, but nerves got the better of me (and probably others too 😂). They briefed us that out of 7000 applicants, only 1800 were shortlisted for this stage! So being chosen meant we were among the luckiest, and we needed to give our best throughout this intense day.

1. The Assessment:

My advice is to study from the provided guidelines to understand what the questions are looking for. Use your logical skills and aim to answer quickly and accurately! If stuck on one question, don't dwell too long—move on to the next. Pay close attention during the test!

After lunch, they announced names for the next stage and assigned groups. Luckily, I was in the first batch (Group A), while others in Group B had to wait; one friend even went home at 7:30 p.m. mentally and physically prepared for this long, tiring day!

2. The Interview:

   Before Interview:

We moved to another hall before the interview. Given a case study, we had about 30 minutes to brainstorm ideas before Zuhur prayer, so focus on the case study and generate innovative ideas. Topics included:
   - Trust in Machines: Benefits of robots in workplace/home (know about AI, technology)
   - Reading
   - Innovating fuel stations

   The Interview:

With 6 people in my group, we introduced ourselves and had a warm-up conversation. As the first to enter the room, I knocked, smiled widely, greeted cheerfully, walked politely, and sat when told.

The first question was a self-introduction. We then discussed the case study, voicing opinions individually. Maintain eye contact with the panel and groupmates, nodding to show agreement or listening actively—it's about interview etiquette!

After presenting our ideas, we discussed why Petronas should adopt robots and build trust in them. We had 30 minutes for the discussion; each person had a role. Communicate clearly, considerately, and include everyone's input, as panels judged our communication and rationality.

Surprisingly, there were no personal interview questions! The session lasted over an hour for me. Petronas panels were incredibly kind and engaged, treating our discussion seriously as if it were a real company issue.

Overall, Petronas Interview Day was challenging yet enlightening. I hope sharing this benefits future candidates—good luck! 🎉

Till then, xoxo 💖
